Not So Silent Night

Timeline: December 24th, evening, 2007

Rey finished rearranging the candles on the table for the fifth time. This was the first time she’d officially invited people over for a party, and it was her first Christmas party, and she wanted it to be perfect. There were a number of people coming over, but it was only for a couple of hours. She hoped nothing went wrong.

“Knock knock”

Rey turned and tried not to run over to the door to answer it. She opened the door and smiled brightly when she saw Daniel. “Daniel! Welcome. Come on in.” She stepped back to let him in. “You’re the first one to arrive.”

The cabin was decorated festively, and the smell of mulled cider and baked goods drifted out into the night air.

The Forty Year Old and a Virgin

Timeline: December 31st, 2007

Grey had been concerned about how to handle Rey. After speaking with Ramiel and Ironclaw on the matter he wasn’t sure he felt any less nervous. But at least they had made some good suggestions.

It had taken Grey most of the afternoon to prepare everything for her. But he was gaining confidence she would be happy with what he had accomplished.

When Rey’s shift ended he was waiting for her outside holding a single red rose.

Rey’d been distracted her entire shift, and the closer to quitting time she got the more nervous she became. When she saw him standing there, it all vanished, replaced with excitement and anticipation. “Hi,” she said softly, almost shyly, but her eyes fairly shone with delight.

Baby Talk

Timeline: Evening of January 22nd, 2008

It was the day after Ramiel, Lyla, Chaska, Michael and Ann-Marie went to Salem to rescue Bron Niesen from his kidnapper. They had yet to figure out what to do with Bron. No one wanted to send him back to his step mother, Anna, without knowing the full facts and reasons why the Cult of Ishtar was involved in it.

But at the moment, that seemed a secondary concern for Ramiel. He’d just seen Ariyah — the mother of his first child — for healing and, as always, she was able to patch him up nicely, though she did warn him not to get into so much trouble. It would take her three days to recover all the mana it took to heal him up this time, so he needed to not almost-die for at least three days in a row.

Tales From the Dark Side

Timeline: December 30th, 2007

Grey and Ironclaw had just finished a hunt. They’d skinned several rabbits and laid them aside for the weekly sacrifice they made of them to the spirit of Young Father Bear. It was early in the day, since they usually hunted in the hours just before dawn and got the work of skinning and taking care of the meat in the morning. But despite the early hour they thought they’d warm up at the Blood and Brew because they knew that usually someone was there even if the bar wasn’t officially open. And anyway, Ironclaw had a key from Lyla.

It was just after 11 am and the Brew was just opening to serve lunches off the grill. In truth, few people came to the Brew for lunch. The couple cafés around town were more popular for that, and it was a bit early for most people to think about going for a beer.

See into the Trees

Timeline: January 23rd, 2008

“Come closer and see, see into the trees
find the girl, while you can
come closer and see. see into the dark
just follow your eyes, just follow your eyes”

-The Forest, by the Cure.

Victory had come to her newfound friends and herself. The Goddess must be thanked, she thought, so up into the depths of the forest she went. The cool night air was comforting, though the chill had little effect on her. She found a nice grove far from the ones that Aubrey had indicated were used by others. They might not accept the darker side of druidism, though it was comforting to know at least they were similar, if distant in their beliefs.

Invitations

Timeline: December 7, 2007

Rey had about an hour before she had to be at the Blood & Brew, but there were a couple of things she needed to take care of. Foremost in her mind was the upcoming holidays. Originally, she’d only thought about doing something for the pack on Christmas Day, but she’d changed her mind.

For the first time in as long as she could remember, she actually wanted to celebrate the season. She decided she was going to have a smaller on Christmas Eve, for friends and other people. Ramiel, Lyla and John were on that list. Grey’s invitation was a no brainer, but she wasn’t sure if he’d come. She was even willing to put personal feelings aside and in the spirit of the season, invite Daniel.

In the Pale Moonlight

Timeline: January 13th, 2008

Deepening shadows from the trees concealed her movements. The night was still, the moon pale behind the whispering clouds. The wild called her and she responded. There are many paths to enlightenment the Goddess had provided, this was one of her favorites. The embrace of the wild. The thrill of the bloody hunt, and victory over the prey. For several nights, the sable wolf had wandered its territory alone, her beautiful eyes glowing with a cold fire, searching for others of its kind. So far, nothing. But she was not content. There were signs, signs of other wolves in the area, yet she had not seen them yet. But they were there, perhaps even watching her. She was not worried, more curious. Rare was the wolf of New England. What kind of creature would this be?

There was a sent mark that seemed to rise like a great pillar before her. In her wolf form, her senses were more acute in many ways. Her sense of smell, for instance, allowed her to detect an entire sensory world she didn’t have access to in human form. Her hearing was likewise enhanced. Her sight, while largely lacking the ability to discern color as a wolf, could pick up light more easily at night, allowing for night-time hunting of nearly any kind of game.

Business and Sex

Timeline: Late November, 2007

Ramiel had been laying out plans in his study for weeks now, writing down ideas and taking notes on various things. He knew this would work and he didn’t even need it to be a huge success. He had been thinking that it would give him an outlet and that was what he needed. What he wasn’t sure of was wether or not the others would help out.

He had decided to talk to Lyla, a task that was normally easy. But lately he knew he had been distant with her. He had been feeling like she was not respecting his privacy. She seemed to snoop through his things whenever possible. It was irritating even though he knew why. Lyla had lost the security of being able to read minds.

It was in the afternoon when Ramiel tracked down Lyla on her way back into town from the woods. “Boo!”

Siblings

Timeline: January 8th, 2008. The New Moon.

The fire of the grill had long gone cold and the chill of the morning air enveloped them. The others had gone to their separate rooms, leaving only John and Ann-Marie, known to John as Grace awake.

Grace stood on the balcony as John approached, “You are disappointed in me aren’t you Johnny?” she said looking over her shoulder.

John stared at her for what seemed like a long time. Maybe it was a long time. Then he stared at his hands and began to speak, “Grace, you’re my sister and I love you. I will always be there for you. I can see some of the Grace I love in you but I can see a lot of someone I don’t know, too. I feel hurt and betrayed that you didn’t trust us … trust me enough to know that. I know you said you tried to contact us and that you have been looking at us from afar but it doesn’t wash anymore. You just up and left the place you were staying, not a word to anyone and it seems to me that if you could do that then you could have contacted us: a phone call, a letter, something, would it have been too much to ask Grace? Hey, I’m alive and OK.”

Home

Timeline: December 1, 2007

Not much had changed in the little town she had left so long ago. But then she had come home for visits from time to time. This time was a little different though. This time was permanent.

Tara had gone shopping for baby clothes the minute she heard of the pregnancy. SHe couldn’t believe little Ariyah was going to be a mom. She had snuck into town early by two days.

It was mid afternoon as she crept into Ariyah’s study to suprise her.

Ariyah was sitting at her desk. She had a book in front of her, but was staring off into space, mind lost in thought.

Tara snuck behind her and tickled her sides. “Hey there mom to be!”
