Next Steps

Elemix sat down at the table across from Emmiline. They had finished their discussions with Magus Alix earlier, and had made their way back to the inn to have some dinner.

After they had ordered, Elemix stared the conversation. “Emmiline. Have you thought about coming with me back to Thalassa? Remember my mother was with child when last we heard from her, I am sure she would love to see you. I for one am excited to return and hope to depart within the week.”

Emmeline nodded. “Yes. I’m not terribly excited about it, but I’ll go to at least take care of my 200 acres. I would much rather go when the Baron isn’t in Uzec, but the reality is that I probably shouldn’t be traveling then.”

She looked dejected. It seemed at every turn the world was determined to tear her away from the one person she most wanted to be with. She’d never managed more than two days in a row with him.

Sang gave impressions to Elemix about going home and visiting his egg-siblings. To him at least, Thalassa seemed a good call. He purred and was excited.

Sevé whispered, “Sevé can go to acres for Emmy, if Emmy wants.” Elemix couldn’t hear the whisper over the sound of the inn, but could see Emmeline’s dejected mood easily enough. Renee was no where to be found.

“You don’t need to travel to Thalassa with me. If you would rather stay in Uzec then I understand. I could check in on your lands if you wish.”

Em looked relieved. “Thank you El and you too Seve. I will need to soon. I promised a blessing for the new grapes crop. Just right now I don’t think I can. As I think about it it’s more thane just a desire to stay near the Baron. I also have an obligation to Magus Alix that will occupy me one full week a month for a while. I’ll need to work something out or wait until it’s done.”

“No problem,” replied Elemix. “I don’t know what Typhon’s plans are next but after Thalassa I am pretty open.”

“You could be an uncle,” Emmeline suggested. Then she smiled.

She then added, “Then again, I think the trip could be done in three weeks. It just needs to be after midsummer for a number of reasons. The baron might let me do it since that should be safe enough. I also understand that Typhon wants to get Jocelyn and their son to safety in Thalassa as well.”

“After midsummer?” Elemix looked surprised. “If we don’t go back this Spring then we will have to answer why we didn’t return sooner. They did make a sizable investment in sponsoring our expedition, so it’s only right I return as soon as is reasonable and formally tell them what we found.

Perhaps it is best then if I go alone. I just don’t like having this over my head. The expedition isn’t over until I return and make the report.”

Emmeline nodded. “I understand.”
